Ice cream maker is yet another product to give you the coolest moments in those hot afternoons. All you need to do it put the ingredients into the Ice Cream Maker machine and out you will get Ice Cream. Its mechanism involves cooling of mixture, which is churned to break the ice crystals, and by introducing the air into it you can have smooth and creamy texture. However, ice creams containing alcohol should be kept in freezer in a temperature of 20-30 degree C for softening it before serving.

It was 1700 AC, Chef of Charles I of England developed a technique, whereby he put a cream rich in flavor in an ice dish and did some shaking, and to everybody' s delight, the result was astonishing. The taste was so delicious, that Charles of England decided to keep it as a "Royal Secret". It was only in 1800 that Ice cream reached masses and spread far and wide. In 1920, Clarence Vogt produced the first continuous process freezer which opened up the possibility for commercial ice cream manufacture.

How to choose ice cream maker

Choosing Ice cream makers for homes is thought provoking, as there are a myriad of varieties as wells as a variety of Ice Cream Makers. They can be characterized in two styles. One is rock salt and ice, while the other is a canister that is placed in the freezer to cool the mix. Rock salt and ice can prepare large amount of ice cream s, and canister only makes 1.5 quarts, but to save the time and several rounds, canister style is better and its cost of operation is also less.

For easy and convenient Ice Cream making, use a manual crank, whereby all in the family turns the crank one by one. This manual crank ice cream maker uses both rock salt & ice and the canister, but this crank style takes much longer time to accomplish the task. An electric crank is lot faster and easier with automatic shut off as soon as the ice cream reaches the right consistency. This Ice Cream Maker is easy to use.

Types of ice cream makers

There are three types of Ice Cream Makers, electric Ice Cream Makers, Manual Ice Cream Makers and The Old Fashioned Ice Cream Makers.
The electric ice cream makers
The Electric ice cream maker consists of electric motor to drive the bowl and stir the mixture. The only difference among them is the cooling mechanism.

The first one is Counter-top machine, which involves double-walled bowl containi ng coolant. Freeze the mixture in a domestic freezer for 24 hours. The bowl will spin stirring the mixture over a stationary paddle assembly. After twenty to thirty minutes the ice cream is ready. This machine is cheaper but can only prepare one batch of Ice cream at a time.

Small freezer-unit machines are placed inside the freezer section of a refrigerator. Even some refrigerators have built-in ice-cream maker with certain freezer-unit machines. There are also more expensive machines, having coolant bowl and own mini-freezer built in. These machines are very costly, even more then $300, according the size.

Their preparation time is 20 to 30 minutes. You should not move the machines for complete 12 hours after its usage, as moving upsets the freezing system.
The manual ice cream makers
contain a freezing liner work just like the similar electric ones. The Manual Machines has an inner bowl, which is placed in a larger outer bowl. The inner bowl constitutes hand cranked mechanism, whi ch turns a pedal that is used to stir the mixture; the outer bowl is then filled with a mixture of salt and ice to provide the cooling.

The manual ice cream makers are inexpensive, inconvenient and messy. The process causes the ice and salt mixture to melt; which leaves lot of salty water that needs to be disposed in between the process and ice and salt mixture has to be refilled. A newer form of manual ice-cream maker is the prechilled chamber freezer, which ranges in size from 1 pint to 1 1/2 quarts.
The old fashioned ice cream makers
These old fashioned ice cream makers need rock salt and ice in the tub around freezing container to lower the melting temperature of the ice. These machines take 30 to 40 minutes to prepare 4 to 6 quarts of ice cream. Some of them have an electric motor on top of the unit, saving manpower.

The container is placed in the freezer for 24 to 48 hours to freeze the coolant is sealed between the walls lining this unit. The ice-cream mixture is poured into t he center cavity;
